Chapter 8

That weekend I spend a lot of time working, I’m getting some files together and work done ahead of time so if I decide to lay in bed gushing or commiserating over my date with Jon I have work done already that can be sent off if anyone asks.

I also send Bob an email asking him where my new job description and offer letter are.  Its been a week since I was out in NJ and I still haven’t seen it.  I figure it looks good that I’m emailing him a 7pm on a Sunday.  About 20 minutes later I get 2 emails from Bob via email, the offer letter is sent only to me via email but the job description is sent to me and cc’d to Chris  with a small note - I’m sorry I thought I sent this.  Thanks for the reminder and take a day off next week, its an order. :) You work hard enough. Goodnight ~ Bob.

That information allows me to go back into shopping mode and its a good thing. Earlier yesterday I had gone over the mortgage paperwork on the house in WI.  I made the guy send me a private email that stated it was not a mortgage or interest only or anything of the like, it was a real mortgage principal and interest, escrow removed and it was to take place the following month.  I signed everything and sent it back to him.  It felt good to be saving $350 a month on that house, I could pay it off easily if I wanted to if I keep this job for over a year.

Just as I’m about to go into shopping mode my phone rings.  Its my best bud Helen.  Her ass of a husband is again having a midlife crisis and he’s kicking her out.  She doesn’t have anywhere to go and wants to know if she can come stay with me in Appleton.

“Better yet hon just live there, I’m not in Appleton I moved to Chicago, there is a key in the front mailbox you’ll have to change the sheets on the bed but move in, take his ass to court get your child support and live in Appleton thats not far, you can still do what you need to.”

“I can’t do that.”

“Why not, I’m not living there anyway. I’ll pay the mortgage for the winter we’ll re-evaluate in the Spring but you pay the water, and heat and we’re good.”

“How much are they? I don’t have a lot right now he’s screwing with stuff.”

“Of course he is.  Water is like $110 every three months and heat is going to be the unknown. I’ve never had gas heat before I don’t know how much it runs.  You’ll be doing me a favor I was going to have to pay someone to come check on the house all winter so this way I know its good.”

She can’t thank me enough and I tell her that’s what sisters are for.  “I always got your back hon you know that.”

We talk for a while longer and finally both of us need sleep.

Tuesday rolls around soon enough.  I get a text from Jon around 10am.

*on the tarmac to leave NY, are we still on for tonight?*

*yes all set, I’ll be ready by 4.  Did you have a good visit?*

*yes and her boyfriends name is Derek, nice kid, no one is good enough for my girl though.*

*is she a daddy’s girl?*

*all the way.  Hey Cap just said I have to stop texting for takeoff bbs*

I wait for about 20 minutes then I get another text,

*miss me?*

*Yes lots. :)*

*I love hearing that.  So how was your weekend? Do anything fun?*

*had a date with a really boring guy, all he wanted was my signature*

*you lost me? :(*

*refi my house in WI - mortgage meeting*

*ahhh now I get it.  You made me worry there that you were dating around.  Do you do that or do you just date one guy at a time?*

*you love to text don’t you?*

*actually yes, this is the way I communicate with so many people because I’m always *not* with them, normally different time zones etc its less invasive - do you not like it?*

*no its fine really, I have it set up through my computer so I’m just typing not even touching my phone*

*me too :)  So much faster that way but no emoticons this way. :(*

*I think you’ll get over it and to answer your question - I only date one guy at a time I’m pretty selective about who I spend time with - if I like you, you know.  If I don’t, you kinda know that too.  Life is way too short to be with someone that makes you unhappy.*

*agreed.  I’ve gotta make some calls for some business that needs to be settled.  I’ll text you when I finish or land whichever comes first.*

*ok you gonna give me an idea of what we’re doing tonight so I know better how to dress*

*Going to Museum and dinner.  I wanted it to be a place we could actually talk, not a movie.*

*good call, sounds great I love our culture here.  See you soon*

I stop texting with him and instantly need to change my ringtone for him, its on the lookout I go and call Ann to help me.

As we’re talking and laughing she keeps telling me to use Jovi songs, “I can’t that, if he ever hears it it would be odd.”

“How’s he going to hear it if he’s with you.”

“Right but if he texts me something from across the room.  Can’t go there.”

“Oh you’re no fun.” She laughed.

I go on my first date with Jon and its fantastic.  He picks me up at my place and I’m wearing a killer outfit. Top for date With tight, skinny cut black jeans and  Jacket for date. Jon takes me to the Museum of Science and Industry first and then to dinner.  What’s so Jon of course is he rents it out for a private party, so when it closes at 4pm for the public we walk in at 5. Its just us with very limited staff in the building and we can walk around and see it all without him being mobbed.  A limo waited for us out front and after spending 2 hrs exploring we take a short drive to Lou Malnati’s Pizza for dinner.  He had asked me in a text what I wanted for food and I had let him know that my buddy that lives in the Chicago area and I differ in our choice of pizza places and he laughs and tells me that he’s on my side so far.  After that night I get a soft gentle no tongue kiss from him as he drops me off with promises of more.

The problem is that 2 days later, instead of getting a text asking me to go out again I get a text telling me that he’s flying to NJ with a family emergency.  His son has gotten hurt in football and he’d let me know what was up with him.
Chapter 7

Looking at the text I bounce around and giggle I can not believe this is happening.  God I love that I moved here.  I text back *Sure Jon when are you thinking?*

*I have to leave for NY tomorrow morning but I can be back Tuesday.  How about Tuesday night?*

*That will work, what time are you thinking?*

*Can I call you to discuss?*

*sure give me 5 minutes.* I stop texting him and quickly pull my clothes off, I brush my teeth quickly while pulling on some shorts and a tank top for bed before my phone rings.  Right now its just a lame normal ring tone but I knows for sure I’ll be changing that quickly.
I grab my phone, “Hello.”

“Hey there beautiful, I’m glad you got home safely.”

“Thanks, I luckily only live like a block and a half from the train stop here so I get home pretty quickly.”

“Good, I’m glad to hear that so on Tuesday I’ll be back in town at 3pm so what time can I pick you up?”

“Pretty much anytime.  I’ll just work from home that day.  What’s your master plan?”

“OH I don’t have a master plan, this dating thing is very new to me.  Remember I’ve been in a relationship for like 30 yrs so I’m not the best at dating.  I can do date night with someone that’s known me forever that I’m good at.”  He admits.

“Ok, so pick a time and tell me how to dress and I’ll be ready.”  I told him not sure if I liked the fact that he didn’t have a plan.  I normally only want a strong confident man but this time, for this man, I’d deal with indecisiveness.  Yeah so I’m shallow, he’s hot its time to get some eye candy on my arm for a while.

“Ok be ready at 4pm and wear something fun and semi casual.  No need for a dress.” I smile at that comment.  “I”m glad because its a bit chilly for a dress unless we’ll be inside all the time.”

“No we might be outside a bit its best to wear pants”  He says not even wanting to see her in pants, dresses are so much easier to have his  way with her in but he didn’t want her cold.

“Sounds great.” I stand up starting to look through my new wardrobe.  “So what do you have to run back to NY for?”

“My daughter wants money I bet.  College is expensive, either that or I’m finally going to meet her boyfriend which I actually dread more.”

“You have two kids right?” I ask thinking I did know a few things about him but I didn’t want to come across like the nut that googles him constantly.

“Yes, Stephanie is 21 and Jesse is 19, both of them are going on 30 and way to cool for their dad now a days.”

“Well they are in college of course they are too cool.” I laugh finding the perfect outfit for the date.  “Alright Mr. I have to work in the morning so I’m going to let you go and crawl into my big bed and look at the beautiful lake.”

“Ah you’re a water lover like me?”

“Yes especially Lake Michigan I grew up on it and call it mine.”

“More for us to discuss on Tuesday I’ll talk with you soon. But can you let me know where I’m picking you up at.”

“Yeah I live at the Legacy @ Millenium Park.”

“Fantastic, thanks darlin, have a great weekend and I’ll talk with you soon.” Jon smiled and hung up and then felt completely awkward.  “Fuck dating sucks.” He cringes.

That weekend he spends a wonderful time with his daughter, he meets the boyfriend, Derek, and takes them both out to eat. Jon hints to Steph that he’s starting dating again.

“OH that’s gotta suck for you.  When’s the date?”

“Tuesday after I get back there.”

“A Tuesday dad? That’s a lame night for a date, did she blow you off for Friday or Saturday?”

“No kid, I told her I wasn’t available I already had a better date.  You.” He smiled.

“OH you’re lame but cute, I love you too dad.” She reached over and kissed him on the cheek while hugging him and her boyfriend snapped a pic of them on his phone.  “Text that to me?”

“Sure honey.” Derek said.

“I’m sorry that mom was a dork dad, I know you never wanted to date again and I know you’re so much better in a couple.  I hope this girl does it for you but don’t settle. You’re a great guy and don’t have to put up with BS just to have someone in your life.” She gives him the same pep talk he’s given her before.

“I can’t believe you turning my pep talk around on me.” He laughed with her having a glass of wine with her.  Derek was only drinking water and Jon tilted his head. “I can have my driver drop you guys off if you want to drink Derek.”

“No thank you sir, Stephanie is robbing the cradle I’m only 20 for another 2 weeks.” He smiled.

“Steph going after them young huh?” Jon laughed since Dot was younger than him but that was more normal in his eyes.

“Yeah hopefully I can train him right.” Steph laughed to Derek who gave her a warning eye.  Jon caught that and looked at Derek, “Watch it, I saw that look.”

“Hey she’s just going to get tickled later for being a sas. Its all good Mr. Bongiovi.”

“OH please its Jon, Mr Bongiovi makes me think my dad is around.”

Chapter 6

Mid Sept. time frame

“Beautiful,l I didn’t catch your name and can I get your number.”
Jon smiled and handed her his card as well, “Will you text me when you get home so I know you got there safely?  You may trust public transit but I’m not a fan just yet.”

Serena smiled up at the hot, distinguished, grey haired man, standing before her in some very nice fitting blue jeans, a greenish/grey button down shirt and a brown leather jacket.  Damn he looked good but she frowned as she heard the train over her head. “Damn it, that was my train.”

“Isn’t there another one in like 10 minutes?” He asked getting her to her feet.

“Not at this time of night Jon, the next one isn’t for 30 minutes.”

“OH,” He smiled shyly looking at the ground and then back up to her. “So you know me.”

“Yes.” She didn’t make a big deal out of it, she didn’t want him to run away this was too exciting.
She just met Jon Bon Jovi on the streets of Chicago at 1115 at night.  Holy crap. “So what are you doing in Chicago, trying to buy the Bears?” She asked having heard that his purchase of the BIlls didn’t go too well.

“Ouch that was cruel.” He growled at her.

“Not really Chicago might sell you them cheap - they suck.” Serena laughed walking over to the train stop.

He put his hand on the small of her back as she walked up to the train platform.  “So you know football?” He asked hopefully.

“Nope, I know of it, I lived in WI for 17 years its one of the three laws there.  One must like beer, one must like cheese and one must deal with the Packers.”

He laughed, “So you’d be a bad girlfriend then, and not allow the game?”

“Wow I went from running into you to a girlfriend already - you’re a pretty fast mover buddy.”

“Hey I’m just checking for future reference.” He smirked with that smile thats made millions of women ready for sex instantly.

“OH well in that case, I can tell you that I’d be pretty ok with the game as long as I was entertained too.”

“How so?”

“I can’t tell all of my secrets in the first 20 minutes?” I smiled as the train pulled up.
“Looks like my way home is here.”

She smiled, handing him her business card. “Its Serena.”

“Sure Jon, it was nice running into you.” She smiled scanning her Metra card and walking onto the train.  Once she took a seat she waved to him and off she went.

Once the train was in motion I looked down at his business card.  I let myself have my 5 minutes of OMG its JBJ in my head and then I calmed down, he’s just a guy after all that has a killer job and that I’ve lusted over for 30 yrs.  Oh Lawrd help me. I thought.  The card was in portait layout unlike the typical landscape style cards, which already made it original and unique in my eyes.  The white card was embellished with all gold on the front, a bar or two of music notes floated whimsically from one side of the card to the other.  Across the front near the bottom in the most devine script were the words :

Jon Bon Jovi

Turning it over in her hands she saw line after line of black text broken up in to three distinct sections.

“Wow” I breathe as I read through all the stuff on the back of his card.  Its busy, and jam packed but also very cool that he included it all because it makes people realize he’s way more than a pretty face and a hot body.  I stood up from the train and exited swiftly stashing his card and my phone in my laptop case before hitting the street.  I am smart enough to know that in downtown Chicago you don’t walk with your head down or phone out.  You walk with a purpose and a direction.  Once I reach my building I show my entrance ID to my doorman and walk in.  The daytime doorman stands outside and greets most people by name, he doesn’t know mine yet but I’m still relatively new.  The night time doorman stands inside and captures people in the entrance area between the two glass doors until he verifies they live there or he calls up and they are granted permission to buzz them up.

Once inside I open my phone and pull his business card back out, I punch in his number and send the text, *Jon I’m home, all good :)*

I got in the elevator and took it to the 42nd floor as I got off my phone chimed. I looked at the text *thanks for letting me know Serena, I never got to ask in person but will you go out with me? *
